[GENERATOR] Si13nt "Dynamic" - Updated ?? - Si13nt - 07-07-2009 04:20 PM

Inspired by the great signature builder created by Chengaria, I've been playing lately with one of my own. My focus has been on including key player information right in the signature, and the ability to dynamically update that information without rebuilding it manually.

In essence, the builder checks the player profile page a couple of times a day (as the profile cache is only updated every 24 hours) and rebuilds the signature image based on level, ELO and abilities build. Pretty much set and forget, unless you update your mugshot. I'm pretty happy with the current results.

If there is interest from the community, I can put a little time into a configuration screen (Hero id and mugshot) and make it available to others.

Feedback welcome.

Here's the Dynamic Signature System: http://bfh.gamertoolbox.com/bfh/

Update: July 20, 2009
I have added the ability to add up to 4 of your other accounts in micro mode to your signature (See my signature below) Simply enter a comma-separated list of additional Hero IDs in the "Seconday Hero IDs" section of the configuration screen. For those of you who have previously used the DSS, you may need to clear your browsers cache to get the latest version of the DSS (Do this only if you don't see the Secondary Hero IDs textbox)

Standard Dimensions = 550x200
Extended Dimensions = 900 x 200

Note:
When uploading mugshots, note that the generator is optimized to use images 512x512 (standard size). It then resizes them to 215x215 for placement on the signature. Anything larger than 215x215 will be resized to fit, anything smaller will be centered in an invisible square 215x215 on the left edge of the signature.

Update: July 22, 2009
The auto-update feature is working again. For those of you who configured an extended signature prior to today, you may need to redo it, as I was not storing that information in the database for auto-updates. It is now being stored, so once you've set it up again, there's no need to do it again Smile

Update: July 31, 2009
I have added a password field to the configuration form, as we've had our first signature hijacking incident Smile Now when you setup your signature, you will be required to enter a password. Keep this password handy, because once it's been set, you will need it every time you want to update your signature in the future.

It's a little cryptic right now on whether or not you enter the correct password, but if the preview image shows up like you expect, you entered the correct password. If not, you didn't. Smile I will make this a little cleaner in the future.

For all existing users, be sure to update your signature one more time, setting your password to whatever you'd like. This should keep you a little safer from someone being a smarty pants and putting a goofy mugshot in your sig Smile

More to come ...

Do you even have to ask?
That's a great idea!
Do you host some sort of php yourself which links off to a hosted image, or how have you set it up?

I like it, one thing quickly, is it possible to make it resize the mugshot slightly, so the overall sig is smaller. Tongue Also, the BG is a bit plain, have you thought about adding a splatter or two to it, similar to the red boxes on this site.

I think its a pretty great idea. Chengaria will be pretty pi.ssed if you upstage his sig generator tho.... Tongue

I like what you did there, I would be interested if you made it available-- especially, if there was a smaller/compact version too Wink

That sounds completely amazing!!

I'd really like to have one, nice work Si13nt!

Update:

Thanks for the feedback everyone! Based on your input, I have:

1. Made the signature smaller, now measuring 550x200
2. "Prettied" up the signature background
3. Started working a configuration tool so people can use the signature generator

In response to a couple of questions:

1. I am a Winblows developer, so there is not PHP script to share, sorry Smile
2. When I roll this out, I will be hosting the signature images, as that's the easiest way to update them periodically. I have some ideas to allow remote hosting, but that would be in the future.

I have attached a screenie of the configuration page in its current state. I hope to have something available for anyone who is interested in a few days.

ALPHA RELEASE

Although development is not quite complete, and I am currently hosting on a test machine, I'd like to get the DSS out there for some people to use. Please note that this is an ALPHA build, and while using it certainly won't hurt your system in anyway, there are no help functions built in, nor is there a redirect to install Silverlight if you don't already have it installed.

So, if ...

1. You already know how to get your characters player id (this is the numeric id found in the url of your stats page) from the stats section of this website
2. You already know how to find the mugshot.png file on your computer
3. You already have Silverlight 2.0 installed on your computer

... feel free to visit this url: http://bfh.gamertoolbox.com/bfh and try it out.

Bumping the bugs

RE: Dynamic Signature w/Build & Stats - CrazyWeazle - 10-07-2009 06:23 AM

Wow... very nice work! Smile. I cant believe it actually works the way you said it would. Id definitely use it if I didnt put so much effort into making my own in PhotoShop lol.

EDIT I think this definitely deserves 'sticky' status Smile

Excellent, thanks for the tool. Amazing.

Absolutely genius.

I guess there's no way to edit the background image?

Very cool! I've made one as you can see xD

But what is ELO?

RE: Dynamic Signature System - Malvarlo - 10-07-2009 01:52 PM

ELO is your matchmaking number.

A measurement of your skill, basically.
