Mission 2: Hard Times

"not so good! We lost sarge back there man!" Cpl. Brik said. "Nothing we can do now, Brik. Let's just get back to the Fortress." We drove for miles and miles until we ran out of fuel. I couldn't count how many National patrols we saw while we were on the road. Let's just hope we're not going the wrong way. "Brik! Check the time and Compass." "On it." We were onto a walk now keeping as low profile as possible in case another patrol shows up. "Sir, we're going North-East and it's 0317 Hours." "Perfect, we'll get there before sundown." After about 2 more hours of walking, we could see the Fortress. But, for some reason we saw smoke coming from the city and also heard commands bieng shouted. "Ahhh crap...." Jimmy stated. "Let's go boys! Safety off!" We charged to the Fortress ready to fight when I looked around and stopped right in my tracks. "Hold boys." I commanded. "They're friendly." "What happened?" A second later, the Fortress commander leaned over the castle walls. "Hey, What in gods name is wrong with you soldiers? Charging at our own base!" "But we saw the smoke.." "Get in here. I'll tell you everything." The Commander finished.
"So, Commander, What exatly did happen?" I questioned. The commanders name was Still Sherman; Most call him Sherman. Sherman hesitated and then stated, "It happened so quick, like, like...Lightning. The Nationals ambushed us as hard as they could killing, destroying everything in thier paths. The royal Battalion here managed to take em' out and send the remaining National survivors into retreat. Almost all the civilians in the town are either wounded or dead." We sat silently in shock as we remembered the same ambush happened to us today too and told him our story. "We've got a medic here that may be able to help out." "Nah, we need you boys for something else." Me and my squad looked at each other and Sherman continued, "We've got problems that need some fixing and you boys seem like you can handle it after what happened to you. I can't send my boys cause we're terrified if another ambush happens so, they're all on heavy patrol. So, you think you can help me out?"
