ELO Explained

There are lots of you who do not understand what ELO means or how it is calculated. I have explained in the past, but I'll do it again here. Then I'll take it one step further. I am going to tell you the hidden formula that is used to calculate your ELO. I'll describe how ELO is calculated specifically for BFH.

ELO (from WIKI) - The Elo rating system is a method for calculating the relative skill levels of players in two-player games
ELO looks at 1v1 battles between 2 opponents per match. It then follows a formula to calculate how many points one player gains, and one player loses based on the 1v1 matchup. It is a zero-sum game, meaning, if player A gains 10 points, then player B loses 10 points (not always true in BFH). By definition, average ELO is 1000. That is what everyone starts with.
Without getting too heavy into math, basically, if your ELO is higher than your opponents and you beat them, you gain a few points. Conversly, if a lower ELO rated player beats a higher level ELO player, then he will gain more points.
After each kill and death, your ELO is updated. It does not wait until the end of the match.
Now here is what makes BFH different than any other ELO scoring system. Once you reach level 16, your gain or loss is cut in half. For example, if a level 10 beats a level 17 and gains 10 points, the level 17 will lose 5 points. The converse is also true.

I've included a chart that shows what the gain and loss would be depending on how the fight went. This chart is not 100% accurate, but it is very close. The exact cut-offs are still not 100% correct. Getting it perfect is a waste of time though.

Here is an example:

Let's say you are a level 20, with an ELO of 1200. You kill an enemy who is level 14 with an ELO of 1000.
So if you look at the chart, subtract your opponent's ELO from yours. You get 1200-1000 = 200.
Since you won the fight, and you are level 20, you will gain 4 ELO . Your opponent will lose 8 points since he is level 15 or less.

Here is a second example:

Let's say you are level 10 with an ELO of 1100. You lose to a level 12 with an ELO of 1200.
Look at the chart, subtract your opponent's ELO from yours. You get 1100-1200 = -100.
You lost the fight and are less than level 16, so you will lose 12 points. Your opponent will gain 12 points.

That is it, that is ELO. Good luck on the battlefield.

Why you noobs want to close it? This is an appeal for help nailing the formula, where experimentation by lots of players is required. Probably didn't bother reading the OP or you'd know that.

There is a basic formula that is used as a reference. It doesn't have to be followed exactly. When I played UT, I had my ELO over 2300. I've never broken 1500 in this game. The formula is different for the 2 games.

Just wanted to remind anyone who may be helping out;
if you are being attacked by someone who doesn't know/care about your testing,
just alt-f4 before they can kill you, and that way you don't have to wait 24 hours to try another test.

Thanks for that. But you could just say.. play now = higher ELO noobbashing = low ELO
